ECOPRO BM R&D

Introduction of Subsidiaries

R&D Areas

Development of Precursor Synthesis Technologies

Research Direction

Precursors are an intermediate product in producing cathode material, and are core materials that account for over 70% of the manufacturing cost of cathode material. ECOPRO BM is developing various precursor synthesis technologies for manufacturing high-density precursors such as particle size control, composition modulation of metals, paste separation, and metal foreign body management.

Major Research Areas

  • Advanced high-nickel precursor synthesis element technologies
  • Development of high quality, high-performance precursor technologies

Development of high-volume NCA technologies

Research Direction

Cathodes are a core material that determine the charging capacity and lifespan of lithium secondary cells. Nicke materials are more eco-friendly than cobalt-based materials, which are used in existing products, and can realize high volume while securing affordability. ECOPRO BM retains M/S, which is the world’s number two in the high-nickel NCA field. Currently, it is mainly applied in power tools. Yet, its use range is expected to broaden for cylindrical batteries for EVs.

Major Research Areas

  • Advanced high-nickel, high-performance NCA manufacturing technologies
  • Improvement of performance with the development of surface treatment element technologies
  • Development of cathode materials for power tools and xEVs

Development of high-stability CSG technologies

Research Direction

Core shell gradient (CSG) is a high-nickel concentration gradient type NCM cathode material which is an improvement of MCM materials’ structural stability and is usually used in pouch cell for EVs. Along with NCA cathode materials, our company aims to advance into the vehicle market and is developing products whose lifespan, output and energy density are excellent to achieve the goal.

Major Research Areas

  • NCM CSG cathode materials element technologies
  • Development of precise core shell gradient structure design technology
  • Development of applicability to electric vehicles (xEV) with high stability and long lifespan.

Development of mass production technologies

Research Direction

ECOPRO BM retains the capability to design the high-nickel cathode material mass production process and is expanding the mass production line to respond to customer needs based on this. In addition, it continues investment and R&D to bolster and improve its quality management system to provide much more excellent products.

Major Research Areas

  • Development of mass production design technologies
  • Development of high-quality production technologies
